According to insiders, China boycotted a private G20 meeting in Mumbai on Sunday. The summit took place in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, a northeastern territory claimed by China as part of Tibet. India has previously rejected similar claims, claiming that Arunachal is an important part of the country.
Nearly 50 delegates attended the conference, which was one of hundreds scheduled in 50 major cities in the run-up to the G20 summit in Delhi in September. The G20 presidency is presently held by India.
It is unclear whether China has officially protested the meeting with India.
China, according to sources, snubbed a secret G20 summit in Mumbai on Sunday. The summit was held at Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, an area in northeastern India claimed by China as part of Tibet. Similar claims have already been denied by India, which believes that Arunachal is a significant component of the country.
The meeting, one of hundreds organized in 50 major cities in the run-up to the G20 summit in Delhi in September, drew around 50 delegates. India currently holds the G20 presidency.
It is unknown whether China has officially objected to the meeting with India.
In December, Indian and Chinese forces battled along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the state’s Tawang sector, escalating a months-long border impasse in eastern Ladakh.
