Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the new Naval Ensign for the Indian Navy in Kochi. This took place in conjunction with the commissioning of INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier.

The Saint George’s Cross, a symbol of the Indian Navy’s longstanding ties to the United Kingdom, has been removed from the new naval ensign. In 1950, the Indian tricolor was added to the left top corner of the Indian Navy Ensign, marking the first post-independence modification.
