According to sources on Monday, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has been charged with violating Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (Punishment for Acts of Terrorism) after making threats against a judge and two senior police officers at a recent rally in Islamabad. The Pakistani government is preparing to detain Khan, according to Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party.
After Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah announced that the Government was considering launching a complaint against the 69-year-old PTI leader for his controversial speech delivered on Saturday night in the national capital’s F-9 Park, the lawsuit against Khan was filed shortly after.
The case was reported under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Islamabad Margalla Police Station around 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to a copy of the first information report (punishment for acts of terrorism).
According to the FIR, Khan “terrorized and threatened top police officials and a respected female additional sessions judge” in his speech with the intention of keeping them from carrying out their duties and preventing them from taking any action against anyone connected to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party (PTI). It claims that Khan’s remarks caused the public and the police to become fearful and unsure.
