Ukraine has lost a quarter of its fertile land since Russia’s invasion, particularly in the south and east, according to the deputy agricultural minister, who insists that food security is not jeopardized.
“Despite the loss of 25% of arable land, crop planting this year is more than adequate” to feed the people, Taras Vysotskiy said at a press conference.
He claimed that national consumption had dropped “due to widespread displacement and external migration” as millions left the violence.
According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Russia’s conflict has displaced more than seven million people within Ukraine.
However, another 7.3 million have migrated overseas, with Poland receiving more than half of them.
Despite the Russians’ enormous loss of land, “the current status of crop planting areas.. “It does not endanger Ukraine’s food security,” he stated.
