Ukraine’s top prosecutor revealed preparations for the first war crimes prosecution of a captured Russian soldier on Wednesday, as combat continued in the east and south and the Kremlin left open the idea of annexing a corner of the nation it took early in the invasion.
Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said her agency prosecuted Sgt. Vadin Shyshimarin, 21, in the February shooting death of an unarmed 62-year-old citizen while riding a bicycle.
Shyshimarin, a tank unit member, was accused of shooting through a vehicle window on the guy in the northeastern village of Chupakhivka. According to Venediktova, the soldier may face up to 15 years in jail. She did not specify when the trial will begin. According to Venediktova’s agency, it has investigated over 10,700 suspected war crimes perpetrated by Russian military and has identified over 600 individuals.
Meanwhile, According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 4.8 million jobs have been lost in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February, as the fighting has shut down enterprises, stifled exports, and forced millions to flee.
According to an ILO analysis, employment losses, which accounted for almost 30 percent of Ukraine’s workforce before to the invasion, might rise to 7 million if hostilities persist, with 3.4 million jobs returning quickly in the case of a cease-fire.
