The months-long “Apprentice”-style battle for former President Donald Trump’s support came to an end Friday afternoon when he chose J.D. Vance, a venture entrepreneur and author of “Hillbilly Elegy.”
“It is time for the whole MAGA movement, the greatest in our country’s history, to rally behind J.D.’s candidacy because, unlike so many other pretenders and want tobes, he will put America First,” Trump said in a statement endorsing Vance’s campaign. On April 23, the former president will hold a rally in Delaware County.
Trump admitted it wasn’t an easy decision, especially given Vance’s opposition to Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. Vance remarked at the time, “I can’t stomach Trump.” “I believe he is poisonous and is dragging the white working class down a path that is really dark.” Vance has now admitted that he was mistaken.
“J.D. Vance, like some others, may have said some less-than-flattering things about me in the past, but he gets it now, and I have seen it in spades,” Trump tweeted. “In what may be a very difficult race, he is our greatest opportunity for victory.”
