In an emotionally charged presentation to the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russian forces of randomly killing civilians “simply for their enjoyment,” before questioning the Security Council’s entire mandate.
The address came a day after Zelensky visited Bucha, a Kyiv suburb where terrible photographs of bodies in the streets surfaced over the weekend.
On Tuesday, he described in graphic detail the consequences of Russia’s retreat from the town, including entire families being murdered, people having their throats cut, and women being raped and slain in front of their children. Russia’s acts, according to Zelensky, are no different than those of a terrorist organization, except that Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
