Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has said that his country, a NATO ally, will continue to offer humanitarian help to Ukraine.
“Because we are so near to the conflict, I am forced to state that we will not be able to offer military support to Ukraine at this time.” “This will not be possible,” Petkov stated at a news conference in Sofia with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Saturday.
Bulgaria has agreed to host a new detachment of NATO troops as part of the alliance’s push to strengthen its eastern flank. Bulgaria does not border Ukraine but has received thousands of refugees. About 150 U.S. Army infantry personnel are part of the contingent.
